Class 25: Screenplay Preparation

Summarizing the unit so far:

  • Introduction to film language/grammar/specific terms
  • Introduction to editing: the continuity style
  • Storyboarding activities : Calvin & Hobbes strips, images/cut-outs

In terms of submissions you have:

  • Paragraph on a favourite film (not graded)
  • shot-by-shot description of parent-teacher interview (not graded)
  • Short writing piece on a film of your choice related to genre (this will be graded this week)

Today we will work on rewriting a short story by Roald Dahl into a working screenplay. The story is “Lamb to the Slaughter“.

Your screenplay should include the following:

  • Scene Heading
  • Action
  • Character Name
  • Dialogue
  • Parentheticals
  • Extensions
  • Transitions
  • Shots

The order of business:

  1. Read the story
  2. Review the screenplay conventions
  3. Start work on your screenplay
